Vestibular Rehabilitation

Vestibular therapy is a specialized form of physical therapy aimed at addressing issues related to the vestibular system, which is responsible for balance and spatial orientation. This therapy is designed to help individuals who experience dizziness, vertigo, and imbalance return to activities of daily living with decreased symptoms of dizziness and improved balance and stability.

Vertigo is an extremely debilitating condition that can range from spinning that lasts from seconds to hours to days. Vestibular dysfunction can result in room spinning dizziness or can feel like a floating sensation “being on a boat”.

Although vertigo originates from the inner ears it will also affect your core and neck control and eye movement. The ears are connected with your eyes through the vestibular ocular reflex (VOR) and are responsible for eye movement and gaze stabilization. Your inner ear also giving input to your core and neck stabilizers through the vestibulospinal pathways.
